Yes. Independent coffee shops running memberships on PerkClub can switch on the Gifts add-on, which lets any customer buy a gift membership for someone else. It is a one-off purchase, not a recurring subscription, and it is priced in items rather than money: a set allowance of drinks over a fixed period, chosen by the shop.
How gift memberships work
The buyer picks a gift membership from the shop’s page and pays upfront, at purchase or with a start date up to 45 days ahead, so a December purchase can start in the new year. The recipient gets it by email with its own QR code and taps to add the pass to their phone themselves. No app to download, nothing to print, and the gift is personal to them rather than transferable.
In store, they scan at the shop’s kiosk exactly like any other member: same screen, same flow, nothing new for staff to learn. The gift runs for its fixed period and then ends. There is no auto-renewal; a recipient who wants to carry on simply joins the shop’s membership like anyone else, which takes moments. The full flow is on our Gifts page.
Gift membership vs gift card vs bean subscription
Three different things share this search. A gift card is stored money that gets spent down, with a balance to remember and part-payments at the till. A gift membership is the thing itself: a number of coffees over a set period, visible on the recipient’s pass after every visit, with no balance involved.
A coffee subscription gift, in UK search at least, usually means mail-order beans: a bag posted to the recipient every month. Lovely, but it never brings anyone through a shop’s door. A gift membership does the opposite. It is redeemed in person, so the recipient experiences the shop itself: the counter, the barista, the ritual.
What it costs the shop
Gifts is an optional add-on to a shop’s PerkClub plan at £19 per site per month, switched on for the whole account in one step. Plans themselves start at £59 per month; see pricing for the full picture. Each gift sale is paid to the shop upfront, with PerkClub’s platform fee and standard Stripe processing fees applying as on any membership payment.
Shops control what each gift includes and what it costs, and can change it season by season: a generous January gift to fill the quietest month, a Christmas gift priced for presents.
Where to go from here
If you run a coffee shop, see how Gifts works or read memberships for coffee shops for the wider recurring-revenue picture. If you are choosing a gift for someone, ask your favourite local shop whether they offer a gift membership; if they are on PerkClub with Gifts switched on, you can buy it from their own membership page in a couple of minutes.
